Kundiman

Dr. Jose P. Rizal

Tunay ngayong umid yaring dila't puso,
Bayan palibhasa'y lupig at dumuko
sa kapabayaan ng nagtuturong puno.

Datapwa't muling sisikat ang araw,
..pilit maliligtas inaping bayan.
Magbabalik mandin at muling iiral
...ang 'ngalang tagalog sa sandaigdigan!

Ibubuhos namin ang dugo't babaha,
matubos nga lamang ang sa amang lupa...
Habang di ninilang panahong tadhana,
Sinta'y tatahimik, iidlip ang nasa.

So numb, oh this... my heart and tongue
...for a country t'was offended and aggrieved
from the negligence of her educators.

But the glory of sun shall soon arise!
strained to help this downtrodden land...
Soon shall rise again and there again shall exist!
... the presige of this race to every land!

And for once, if needed, shall my blood be irrigated...
only to redeem this land so dear that I loved!
Whereas whilst this fate is not yet to come...
My beloved land shall be at peace and thy flowers shall soon to grow!

You're right! Honestly speaking... we, filipinos have so many great writers before... unfortunately, we, ourselves, don't give ourselves an opportunity to express it to the whole world.

Thanks for doing this important poetry translating work. Did you come across my B.A. essay published in My Patria by Giraffe Books (1998)? I included the wonderful Nick Joaquin translations of some Rizal poems. I love Rizal's early poetry, too. Keep up the good work and keep in touch!

JBE kindly enlarged the font a little bit. Go to Customize, Layout, Font and Colour and select larger. Sakit kasi sa mga mata ko. Maraming salamat. :)

Very patriotic, this one! Nicely done!!! I could feel the sorrow or the depravity caused due to the negligence.
